Cherry Sugar Chest

In the Fall of 2006 I built a replica of a
sugar chest that sits in the kitchen at the historical
James K. Polk home in Columbia, Tn. to be auctioned off
for the James K. Polk society's biennial fundraiser. The
front and two sides of the top portion of the chest was
cut in sequence from a single cherry board that measured
17" wide. The pieces are joined with handcut
dovetails and the grain is matched all the way around both
sides and front. I turned the knobs and legs to match and
the drawer is maple dovetailed into cherry. Oil and wax
finish.
